Softball Suffers Setback to Sooners

Norman, Okla. - A pair of three-run home runs by The University of Oklahoma did in The University of Tulsa softball squad in Norman, Okla., on Tuesday night. The Sooners started the game with a three-run homer to right field to start the game, then ended the 11-2 run-rule victory with another three-run home in the bottom of the sixth.

Down 3-0 in the second, the Golden Hurricane rallied to score two runs with the tying run being tagged out at the plate. Junior Crissy Strimple led off the inning with a walk, then freshman Stacey Walkingstick was hit by a pitch. Freshman Lindsey Dyer just missed another homerun to right field, hitting a bases clearing triple off the top of the fence. After fellow freshman Holly Reynolds was hit by a pitch, Dyer was tagged out at home trying to score on a wild pitch.

Freshman Ami Day took the loss pitching only two innings. Senior Jenny Magill relived Day for the final 3.1 innings. Five different Hurricane players recorded hits in the contest, including freshmen Stephanie Sliepen, Walkingstick and Dyer, as well as juniors Danielle Olsen and Strimple.

Tulsa returns to the friendly confines of the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex for its final home date of the season on Sunday, May 5. The Golden Hurricane will host the Stars of Oklahoma City University in a 2 p.m. doubleheader. OCU is currently ranked No. 1 in the NAIA poll. Four Tulsa seniors will be honored in a special ceremony before the game, as they will be playing their final home game for Tulsa.
