Little Rock, Arkansas - The University of Tulsa men's golf team has narrowly missed qualifying for the NCAA Championship in each of the past six seasons, but this year hopes to change that trend.
The Hurricane will tee-off at the NCAA Central Regional on Thursday, May 16, as the tournament will play 18 holes each day through Saturday, May 18. The tournament will be played on the Pleasant Valley Country Club course in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Twenty-seven teams will compete for 10 spots to the NCAA Championships, May 29-June 1, at Ohio State's Scarlet Course. The east and west regions are also comprised of 27 teams trying to qualify for 10 spots.
Tulsa, ranked 36th in the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin ratings, is coming off of a fifth-place finish at the prestigious Perry Maxwell Intercollegiate last week. During the spring season, the Hurricane has finished either first or second four times in eight tournaments.
All five of Tulsa's golfers sport better than a 75.0 stroke average. Sophomore David Inglis has a team-best 72.3 stroke average, followed by 73.4 averages by sophomores Neil Trimm and Chris Noel and senior Kevin Henry. Junior Billy Lowry, who turned in a career-best sixth-place finish in Tulsa's last outing, has a 74.9 stoke average.
Last year, the Hurricane placed 11th at the NCAA Central Regional.
