Hurricane Cross Country Teams Finish Second at Fayetteville Invitational

Fayetteville, Ark. - Both of The University of Tulsa cross country teams finished second behind Arkansas at the Fayetteville Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., on Saturday morning. Senior runner Andy Norman topped the TU list with a second place performance individually on the men's side. Junior Monica Joannes topped the TU women with a sixth place showing.
With a time of 20:19.30, Norman again topped fellow Englishman Owain Matthews. Matthews finished sixth with a time of 20:47.10. Sophomore Ben Orozco rounded out TU's top-10 performers by finishing ninth in a time of 20:54.30.
Other TU male finshers included Taylor Williams with a time of 21:29.70 for 16th place; Brian Erwin finished 18th with a time of 21:47.30; Jared Christianson finished 21st with a time of 22:13.20; Derek Sparks finished with a time 22:43.10 for 22nd place. Twenty-six runners finished the four-mile meet.
On the women's side, Joannes turned in a time of 17:58.80 to lead three TU runners in the top-10 out of 26 runners. Freshman Tami Scott posted a time of 18:21.40 over the two-mile trail to finsh ninth, just ahead of teammate Sarah Haskins in 10th. Haskins recorded a time of 18:23.30. Freshman Megan Langwell finished 11th with a time of 18:24.60. Sophomore Natalie Rasmussen and freshman Erin Deasy both recorded identical times of 18:39.10 to finish tied for 13th. Sophomore Melanie Hardy finished with a time of 19:36.10 for 21st place. Senior April Johnson closed out the TU runners with a time of 20:03.90 to finish in 22nd place.
