Golden Hurricane Softball Ranks Among Nation's Best

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa softball team was one of the nation's best teams statistically in 2002. In 2003, the Golden Hurricane are gathering votes for the USA Today/NFCA Top-25 poll. Listed in "Others receiving votes", Tulsa ranks 35th in the country in this week's poll released Wednesday.
Tulsa, 6-4 on the season, is coming off its first tournament championship of the season at the Louisiana-Monroe Mardi Gras Classic. Tulsa defeated No. 32 Louisiana-Lafayette and Auburn in the tournament, both teams competed in an NCAA Regional Championship last year.
Last season Tulsa turned in the countries biggest turnaround, with a record of 48-16. The Hurricane broke 62 school records including the school's first winning record and a 19-game winning streak. TU also ranked ninth in the country for attendance in 2002.
The Golden Hurricane will look to improve on its ranking at the Compass Bank Invitational in Waco, Texas. The tournament, hosted by No. 31 Baylor, will also include UAB and Louisiana Tech. UAB recently defeated Oklahoma in Norman, Okla., at the OU/Nike Classic.
