GREENVILLE, N.C. — After a thrilling, comeback win earlier on Wednesday, the Tulsa offense couldn't replicate it, falling to Charlotte, 2-0, in the second round of the American Conference Championships.
Claira Skaggs recorded a hit and a double while also drawing a walk in her performance. Makenzie Freeman pitched 5.2 innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out three batters. Madison Garcia contributed with a hit in her appearance. Additionally, Mackenzy Glenn tallied a hit during the game.
Neither offense could get much going until the sixth. Skaggs led off with a double to left center, putting the team in a promising position. Faith Russell then executed a sacrifice bunt, advancing Skaggs to third base. However, the team was unable to capitalize as Emma Vickrey grounded out to the pitcher and Aliya Scarborough lined out to right field, leaving the runner stranded.
Charlotte seized the momentum in their half of the inning. After a walk to Sydney Lewis and a pinch runner substitution, Charlotte advanced runners through a hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice bunt. Savanna Nguyen's sacrifice fly to center field brought in Chloe Aldrich for the first run. Later, London Dirks scored on a steal of home, extending Charlotte's lead to 2-0.
In the seventh inning, Tulsa's attempt to rally was thwarted. Glenn popped up to second base, Amber Turner lined out to right center, and Maci Cole grounded out to third base, ending the game.
