Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa women's soccer team received goals from five different players as the Golden Hurricane cruised past Northwestern State, 5-0, in an exhibition contest at the Hurricane Soccer & Track Stadium.
In the near 100-degree weather, the Hurricane tallied two goals in the opening period and tacked on three more scores in the second half. Both teams used unlimited substitutions during the game to help fight fatigue and the hot weather.
Tulsa got on the board at the 13:19 minute mark when sophomore Carrie Schnarre blasted a shot from the top of the penalty box into the back of the net for the game's first goal. Schnarre got plenty of help on the score from her teammates. Playing on the right side of the field, senior Staci Morgan sent a pass to freshman Kristie Keirsey, who then redirected the ball to a wide-open Schnarre at the top. Both Morgan and Keirsey were credited with an assist on the score.
The game remained 1-0 in TU's favor for a majority of the first half. However, the Golden Hurricane struck again with under a minute remaining in the opening period when freshman Erin Abercrombie nailed a shot from the left side past Northwestern State goalkeeper Nellie Latiolais at the 44:07 minute mark to put Tulsa up 2-0. Senior Emily Trost and sophomore Danielle Fauteux each picked up an assist on the goal.
The Hurricane wasted little time adding to its lead in the second half. Keirsey took a pass from junior Susan Day and nailed a shot from the right side of the field into the left side of the goal with just 3:54 gone by in the period. Day picked up the assist on the play.
A little over four minutes later, a Tulsa player was fouled just outside of the penalty box on the left side and the Hurricane was awarded a free kick. Sophomore Jamie German lined up her shot and sent the ball into a crowd where junior Holly Lorman jumped and headed the shot into goal and gave Tulsa a 4-0 lead at 52:41. German, who finished with a team-high eight assists a year ago, was credited with an assist.
Tulsa concluded its scoring barrage at the 56:38 minute mark when Morgan bested one of the Demon defenders in a one-on-one dual and dribbled alone down the left side where she kicked an uncontested shot past the Northwestern State goalkeeper for an unassisted goal.
