Johnson City, Tennessee - Tulsa golfers didn't quite have the performance they wanted in a season-opening tournament as the Hurricane finished in 13th place in the 18-team field at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Ridges Golf Course over the weekend. Despite the performance, Tulsa did see good things from three freshmen from its class of newcomers.
The Hurricane carded an opening round of 295 and followed that with a 303 to finish the first 36 holes with a score of 598. Today, Tulsa shot another round of seven-under par 295 to finish at 893 for the event.
Tulsa freshman Tully Coyle finished in 31st place overall with rounds of 74-74-72 for a four-over par 220 total, while senior All-American David Inglis was next in 41st place with a seven-over par 223 score. Inglis had the day's best round for the Hurricane with a one-under par 71.
Freshman Ryan Henry carded a final round 76 for a 224 total to place him in 47th place overall. Chris Noel's 227 was good for 62nd place, while freshman Mitch Cohlmia's 230 total was good for 75th place.
Wake Forest senior Bill Haas, the nation's preseason No. 1 player, shot 10-under-par (67-68-71=206) for the event and captured the individual championship by four strokes over South Carolina's Martin Rominger and Florida's Camilo Villegas during Sunday's final round play at the Ridges.
Meanwhile, Florida kept it's momentum after a sterling second round on Saturday, holding off two-time Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate champion TCU by four strokes for the team championship. Rounding out the top-five teams were Clemson, Southern California and South Carolina.
Tulsa is in action next at the Pepperdine Club Intercollegiate, October 6-7, in Malibu, California.
