San Marcos, Texas - The University of Tulsa softball team split a pair of contests on Saturday at the CenturyTel Bobcat Classic in San Marcos, Texas. Texas State, ranked 26th in the country in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, scored with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 1-0 victory over Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane rebounded with a 4-2 victory over New Mexico State in its second game of the day at Bobcat Field.

Against TSU, senior Heather Hiar opened the game with a leadoff double to right field, but could only advance to third base on a sacrifice bunt. The Cypress, Calif., native recorded two of TU's four hits in the contest. She also posted a single in the third inning. Junior Ami Day and sophomore Kelly Miller also recorded singles for the Hurricane.

Day picked up the loss, going the distance for Tulsa. She struck out three Bobcats while walking five Texas State hitters.

In the second game of the day, Tulsa rebounded with a 4-2 victory over New Mexico State. It was the second victory over the Aggies, as the two teams split a pair of games in the 2001 season. The Hurricane got a big boost in the first inning thanks to a three-run homerun from sophomore LeeAnne Pepper. Pepper's first collegiate homer followed a walk by sophomore Stacey Walkingstick and a single by freshman Lindsay Galloway.

The Aggies trimmed the lead to 3-1 in the top of the fourth, however Tulsa answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Hiar led off the inning with a triple to center field. She scored on a single by Walkingstick. New Mexico State would cut the TU lead in half in the top of the sixth, however the Aggies could not get any closer.

Junior Lindsey Dyer picked up the victory by striking out eight NMSU batters and allowing zero walks in six innings of work. Sophomore Maren Genow picked up her first save of the season by recording two strikeouts in the top of the seventh.

Tulsa, improving to 3-1 on the season, will conclude the tournament on Sunday with an afternoon contest against Texas-San Antonio.
