Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa softball team had only one hit in the first game of its Western Athletic Conference doubleheader against Nevada on Thursday night at the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex. Sophomore Katie Torres hit her first offering in the bottom of the seventh inning to post TU's only hit in the game. However, her ninth home run of the season came in a scoreless game to give the Golden Hurricane a 1-0 win over the Wolf Pack. Nevada came back in the nightcap to win 4-1 to earn a split.

Nevada's Tiffany Hoeft kept the WAC's best hitting team off the bases the whole game, as TU had only two base runners. Torres walked with two outs in the first and freshman Lindsay Galloway reached safely on an error in the fifth inning for the only two runners. Tulsa hit the ball out of the infield only twice before Torres' heroics.

Sophomore Maren Genow did not allow any of the five Nevada base runners past second base to pick up her 13th win of the season. The Moore, Okla., native struck out eight Wolf Pack hitters in the game.

In the night cap, the Wolf Pack scored twice in the second inning for the first runs of the game. Back-to-back doubles by Sonia Rojo and Cindy Elkins led to both runs for UN. Nevada added two more runs in the fifth inning after consecutive errors by TU and a triple by Jiliane Hartfiel.

Tulsa picked up its only run of the game on Torres' 10th home run of the season, in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Freshman Julie Fennell was tagged for the loss, falling to 5-3 on the season. The Hurricane now stands 29-13 on the season, 3-1 in WAC play. Nevada is now 26-18 and 1-3 in the WAC.

Tulsa will host No. 14 Fresno State on Saturday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at the Hardesty Complex.
