Tulsa Women's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision to Arkansas

Fayetteville, Arkansas - The Tulsa women's soccer team surrendered the lone goal of the game with less than a minute and half gone by in the first half and the Lady Razorbacks held off the Golden Hurricane, 1-0, at Lady `Back Field in front of 639 fans, the largest home opening crowd in school history for Arkansas. Tulsa (0-2) had its six-match win streak against the Lady Razorbacks snapped with the loss, but still leads the overall series, 17-5-1, while Arkansas (1-1) picked up its first win of the season and its first in the series since the 1994 campaign. The Hurricane is off to an 0-2 start for just the third time in school history and first since the 2002 season. The Lady Razorbacks wasted little time getting on the board in the first half, scoring their first goal just 1:19 into the game. Megan McCool registered her first goal of the year when collected a deflected shot and lofted a shot over TU senior goalkeeper Pam Devore. Later in the first half, Tulsa looked as if it had tied the game when sophomore Katie Ward headed a corner kick from junior Ashley Rickner into the right side of the net, but the officials disallowed the goal because of goalkeeper interference. Both teams had several scoring opportunities during the latter stages of the first half, but neither team was able to score. Arkansas led at halftime intermission, 1-0, and also held the advantage for shots, 5-4. Neither team was able to able to score in the second half. Devore made several crucial saves in the final period to keep Arkansas from increasing its lead. Tulsa returns to action against Arkansas State at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 5, at the Hurricane Soccer & Track Stadium.
