Final Stats |  Notes

Tulsa captured its third straight road , on an NCAA record-setting day for one Golden Hurricane player, with a 41-21 victory over the Rice Owls in front of 10,893 fans at Rice Stadium. Senior kick returner Ashlan Davis tied an NCAA record with his sixth career kickoff return for a touchdown, tying USC's Anthony Davis' (1972-74) mark established more than 30 years ago.

The Hurricane improved to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in Conference USA play, while Rice dropped to 0-5 and 0-3 in league competition. Tulsa's Uril Parrish rushed for three touchdowns, all coming in the first half, while an interception return and a kickoff return went the distance for Hurricane touchdowns.

Tulsa escaped a blow on Rice's first possession, as a Owls score was nullified due to a penalty. The Tulsa defense stopped the Owls on fourth down, but the Hurricane offense could not muster much of an attack.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Hurricane marched 88 yards in 12 plays, taking 6:33 off the clock to put Tulsa ahead 7-0 at the 11:48 mark of the second quarter.

Parrish scored his second touchdown of the game on a two-yard run at the 1:20 mark of the second quarter. The Hurricane drove 62 yards in nine plays, consuming 4:15. On the subsequent kickoff, the Hurricane recovered a Rice fumble at the 38-yard line. The offense scored for the third time in the first half on a 10-yard Parrish run, taking just 0:31 to take a 21-0 lead.

At halftime, the Hurricane held a 217 to 90-yard edge in total offense, while throwing for 122 yards and rushing for 95 yards. Tulsa had a 6.8-yard average in the first half, while the Owls had a 3.2 average per carry.

Tulsa scored the first points of the second half as Bobby Klinck picked up a fumble caused by Chris Chamberlain and ran 19 yards for a touchdown. Rice scored on the subsequent possession running its option attack 72 yards in 13 plays, taking 5:04 off the clock, for their first score of the game at the 6:15 mark of the third period.

Tulsa answered on an 80-yard, 10-play drive of its own, capped by a Paul Smith eight-yard pass to Davis, at the 1:26 mark of the third quarter. The key play on the drive was a Tarrion Adams rush for 49 yards.

Rice responded with their second TD of the game and the first of two fourth quarter scores for the home team on a 41-yard Brandon King interception return. But, Tulsa's Davis wasted little time in putting more points on the board for the Hurricane with his NCAA record-tying 96-yard kickoff return, the sixth touchdown on a kickoff return of his career.

The Owls scored again to make it 41-21, but failed on the on-side kick attempt. Tulsa prevailed for a 41-21 win over the Owls, giving the Hurricane a three-game winning streak in the series.

For the game, the Hurricane gained 383 yards, compared to Rice's 316 yards. The Tulsa defense had two fumble recoveries and two interceptions, as Tulsa scored on two of Rice's miscues.
