TU Men's Tennis Team Loses Squeaker to #19 Auburn

Tulsa, Okla. - The No. 50-ranked University of Tulsa men's tennis team lost a close match to #19 Auburn, Sunday. Auburn won the match, 4-3. The Golden Hurricane hosted the Tigers at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center, on the indoor courts. This marks the third straight loss for TU, dropping them to 9-4 on the season.
Tulsa won the doubles point, as they won the first two of the three matches. Brothers Federico and Ricardo Soriano defeated Nick Lane and Brett Hunter, 8-2. TU's No. 41-ranked doubles team of Achim Roth and Aleksander Charpantidis dropped Gabor Zoltan Pelva and Robbert Lathouwers, 8-5. Diego Camacho and Andy Connelly defeated Alex Schweizer and Tom George, 9-7.
Going into the singles competition with a 1-0 lead, the Hurricane looked to continue rolling, however, the first singles match to finish was in the number two ladder position, as Alex Schweizer dropped Federico Soriano in two straight sets, 6-0, 6-4. Brett Hunter defeated Diego Camacho, 6-3, 6-4, to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
Freshman Will Gray tied up the duel at 2, as he posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Tom George. The lead didn't last long as Aleksander Charpantidis fell to Robbert Lathouwers, 6-7, 4-6, giving Auburn a 3-2 advantage. Ricardo Soriano defeated Nick Lane, 7-6, 7-6, to tie the match at 3.
The match came down to the number one ladder position as Achim Roth went three sets, including a tie break in the second set, but could not hold off Gabor Zoltan Pelva, who won, 7-5, 6-7, 6-4.
The Golden Hurricane men's tennis team returns to action Saturday, February 26, at 6 p.m. against Wake Forest.
