Tulsa's Hathaway Selected in Canadian Football League Draft

Tulsa, Oklahoma - University of Tulsa senior tight end Cory Hathaway was selected with the 28th pick in the Canadian Football League Draft on Thursday. Hathaway, a native of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, was drafted by the Ottawa Renegades with the second pick in the fourth round.
THE CFL's nine-team league conducts a six round draft with a total of 53 draft selections. Of the 53 draft picks, 33 were from CIS schools (Canadian schools), 18 were from NCAA schools and 2 were from NAIA schools.
Hathaway, 6'2, 242-pounds, played in 46 career games and started 15 career contests at Tulsa. He played his first two seasons at defensive end, before making the switch to the offensive side of the 2003 spring drills.
On offense, Hathaway had seven receptions for 59 yards in his career. In 2004, he caught four passes for 47 yards and one touchdown. His TD was a 23-yard reception against No. 18-ranked Boise State.
As a defensive end, Hathaway had career totals of 48 tackles and 7.5 stops for -33 yards. In the 2002 season, he had career-bests of six tackles against both Baylor and SMU. In the Baylor contest, Hathaway also had a five-yard interception return for a touchdown and two tackles for -12 yards.
Hathaway will graduate next week with his bachelor's degree in exercise sport science. He earned all-Western Athletic Conference Academic honors in his final three years at Tulsa.
Hathaway will report to training camp in late May. The Ottawa Renegades open the 2005 season against the Montreal Alouettes on June 9.
