Owings Mills, Maryland - The University of Tulsa men's golf team, ranked 25th nationally in the most recent GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll, opens play at the NCAA Golf Championships on Wednesday. The 72-hole tournament runs from June 1-4, at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland.

The Tulsa golfers are competing at the NCAA Championships for the eighth time in school history. The Hurricane used a fourth-place performance at the NCAA Central Regional to take one of the top-10 qualifying spots. The top-10 teams and top two individuals from the three regional events -- East, Central and West -- advanced to the 30-team, 156-player field in Baltimore, Md.

Top-ranked Oklahoma State and No. 1 seeds Augusta State, Wake Forest and UNLV headline this year's field.

The last Tulsa appearance at the NCAA Championships came in 2002, when the Hurricane had its best NCAA performance in school history. Tulsa finished in ninth place that year, after placing third overall at the NCAA Central Regional.

Tulsa's other championship appearances came in 1959, 1960, 1975, 1987, 1988, 1995 and 2002. Head Coach Bill Brogden has taken the Hurricane to five of Tulsa's eight NCAA Championship appearances.

The Hurricane is led by a quintet of sophomore golfers, four of whom have a stroke average below 74.0. Ryan Henry turned in the best score at the regional with a three-over par 213 total to finish in 14th place, while on the year he has had six top-15 performances. Mitch Cohlmia has placed among the top-20 eight times, while Brett Myers and Sam Korbe each has five top-20 finishes.

Tulsa will tee-off on Wednesday beginning at 1:00 pm (eastern time) from the first tee. After 54 holes of the 72-hole NCAA Championship Tournament the field will be cut to the top 15 teams for the final 18 holes.
