Poplarville, Miss. -
Freshman forward Hannah Taylor netted two goals to assist Tulsa to a 3-1 victory over Southern Miss on Friday night in Poplarville, Miss. The game was moved from the USM campus to Pearl River Community College due to wet grounds. The Golden Hurricane owns a 7-10 mark on the season, including a 3-5 record in Conference USA, while the Golden Eagles fell to 4-12-1 on the year and 0-8 in the league.USM got on the board first as Kim Turner captured a goal at the 4:07 mark, but Taylor tallied her first goal of the night and second of the season just a little over eight minutes later to tie the game, 1-1. Lauren Gilliland passed the ball to Taylor who punched it in from 18 yards out.
Taylor registered her second goal in the 35th minute to capture the lead for Tulsa after Sarah Greene dribbled down to the end line and crossed it in front of the net to Taylor. Freshman midfielder Megan Cash added another goal for TU, her eighth of the year, in the 68th minute to give the Golden Hurricane a two-goal cushion. Tulsa, however, wouldn't need it as they held USM scoreless in the second period.
"We played really well tonight," Head Coach Rena Richardson said. "Hannah's goals early on made a huge impact on the game and we are pleased with the win."
Southern Miss out-shot TU, 9-6, but the teams tied in shots on goal with four each. Junior goalkeeper Meredith Hart picked up three saves for 68 this season and 169 in her career.
TU will conclude regular season play on Sunday, October 29th at UCF. Game time is set for 12 noon.
