Tulsa Golfers in Eighth Place at the Jerry Pate National

Sam Korbe turned in Tulsa's best first round score at the Jerry Pate National.

Birmingham, Alabama - The Tulsa men's golf team carded a four-under par 284 on Monday in first round action at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate at the par 72 Old Overton Golf Club. After the first of two rounds on Monday, the Hurricane sat in eighth place overall in the 12-team field.

Tulsa senior Sam Korbe shot an opening round three-under par 69 and is in 14th place, while fellow senior Mitch Cohlmia's two-under par score of 70 is good for 20th place.

Another junior, Brett Myers is in 33rd place after shooting an even-par 72 on Monday. Sophomore Nicolas Geyger is one stroke back with a score of 73. Junior Ryan Henry is tied for 53rd place with a round of 77.

Alabama leads the team race with an opening round 270, followed by UAB (272), Texas Tech (274), Georgia State (277) and Arizona and Texas (280) rounding out the top five places.

Georgia State's Mark Haastrup carded a nine-under par 63 and is in first place after one round.

Second round action is expected to conclude tonight, while the final round will be played on Tuesday.
