Springfield, Mo. - The University of Tulsa softball team closed out it's non-conference schedule with a twinbill at Missouri State in Springfield, Mo. The Bears swept the doubleheader, 5-2 and 2-1, before a crowd of 240 at the MSU Softball Field. Missouri State improves to 37-13 on the season, while Tulsa falls to 28-19 overall.

The Golden Hurricane struck first in the opening contest with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning. Senior Lindsay Galloway singled with one out to give TU its second base runner of the contest. Freshman Brooke Smart followed with an RBI double to right center to score Galloway from first. Senior Julie Shafer posted her second hit of the contest with an RBI single up the middle to score Smart.

Missouri State quickly took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the third as four consecutive hitters scored for MSU. After a lead-off ground out, Sara Cole earned a walk. Samantha Fleeman followed with her eighth home run of the season, tying the game 2-2. Jessica Smith kept the Bears' rally going with a single to center field. She would score on Shannon Buslepp's fourth home run of the year, to give MSU a 4-2 lead.

Tulsa could not get on track as 12 of TU final 13 batters were retired, only senior Katie Torres reached base. She singled to right field in the sixth inning. MSU added an insurance run in the bottom of the stanza for the final margin.

The nightcap started off well for TU, as both Smart and Shafer singled to open the contest. However, the Hurricane was unable to take advantage of the base runners. The second inning was a little kinder to TU, as junior Kelli McGlasson opened the inning with a single to left field. After stealing second base, she moved to third on a ground out. McGlasson then scored on a wild pitch to give TU a 1-0 lead.

Like the first game, Missouri State quickly tied the contest in the second. Melissa Porche singled through the left side to open the stanza, followed by an RBI double by Armentrout.

The Bears continued to apply pressure to TU starter Katie Lee. However, the freshman hurler was able to pitch out of jams in the second, third and fourth innings. MSU got its final run of the day in the form of an Armentrout home run to left field.

Tulsa returns to the friendly confines of the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex and to Conference USA play, with a three game series against UTEP. Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., with Senior Day's series finale also scheduled for 1 p.m.
