Norman, Okla. - The University of Tulsa softball team rallied, just not soon enough, dropping a 5-3 decision to Oklahoma at the OU Softball Complex on Tuesday afternoon. The meeting was the 32nd time TU and OU have met on the softball diamond.

The Sooners scored first with a pair of runs in the second inning. A lead-off home run was followed by a one-out single to rightfield. After a pop-up for the second out, OU hit another single for a pair of baserunners. A another single scored their second run of the inning. Oklahoma added to its lead with another run in the third, followed by another run in the fourth.

OU built a 5-0 lead with a two-out home run in the sixth inning. Tulsa stranded seven runners on base in the first six innings, however could not score. That ended in the seventh inning. Freshman Ashlee Lubniewski pinch hit to lead off the stanza. She promptly recorded her second home run of the season with a shot to leftfield. After a groundout, sophomore Brooke Smart singled to leftfield. Fellow sophomore Stephanie Chomicki recorded her second hit of the contest with a single to centerfield. Freshman Lauren Lindsay made it three consecutive hits with another single to center that scored Smart. A fourth single by junior Sara Dyer scored Chomicki, cutting the deficit to 5-3. With two runners on and momentum starting to swing, the Golden Hurricane grounded into a double-play to end the contest.

Chomicki, Dyer and Lindsay all posted two hits, as the Hurricane out hit Oklahoma 9-7. Smart, Lubniewski and senior Kelli McGlasson also had hits for TU.

Tulsa (3-8) will return to the friendly confines of the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex on Friday to host the Holiday Inn Select-Tulsa Festival. Squads from Creighton, Eastern Illinois, Missouri State and Stephen F. Austin will also take part in the festival, which runs through Sunday.
