The University of Tulsa softball team closed out a 15-game homestand with a pair of victories in a doubleheader sweep of Western Illinois, 61 and 8-2, on Tuesday night. A crowd of 237 witnessed the Golden Hurricane extend its winning streak to eight games and improve to 16-10 on the season.
Tulsa posted 12 hits and 11 hits respectively in the two contests, as the first game saw TU post three doubles and the second game saw three doubles, two triples and a homerun. Junior Sara Dyer led the Hurricane hitters with a 5-for-8 performance in the twinbill, including two doubles and a triple. She also scored four runs on the evening.
Senior Julie Fennell scattered six hits and struck out seven WIU batters for the complete game in the opener. Sophomore Katie Lee also struck out seven in the nightcap, while freshman Jackie Lawrence struck out two batters in one inning of relief. Both Fennell and Lee improved to 5-4 on the year.
Tulsa will play one more non-conference game this week, at Stephen F. Austin, before jumping back into league play at Houston.
