Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa dropped its fifth consecutive game as the Drake Bulldogs score six times in the first two innings, then held on for a 6-2 win at the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex on Wednesday. Drake improves to 10-19 on the year, Tulsa falls to 16-15 overall.
The Bulldogs posted seven hits off TU starter Julie Fennell in the opening stanzas, including a double in the first and a homerun in the second. Freshman Jackie Lawrence pitched the final five innings of the contest, striking out seven Drake hitters and allowing only one hit.
Offensively, Tulsa posted 10 hits compared to Drake's eight. Junior Sara Dyer and Lawrence both recorded two hits apiece for the Hurricane. Dyer also recorded her 13th double of the season, needing only four more to break the single-season record for twin-baggers. Seniors Kelli McGlasson and Angela Osbon, along with sophomores Brooke Smart and Stephanie Chomicki, as well as freshmen Christian Timmons and Vanessa Vice all posted hits for TU.
The Golden Hurricane continues its home stand with another non-conference affair on Thursday against in-state rival Oklahoma State. First-pitch is scheduled to be at 7 p.m. between the Cowgirls and Hurricane.
