Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa softball team broke its losing streak by coming from behind in the second game of a doubleheader against UCF at the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex on Saturday. Junior Allison Kime was two outs away from a no-hitter in the first game in a 3-0 UCF win. Tulsa posted five runs in the first two innings for a 7-4 win in the second game, to break a seven game losing streak.

The Golden Knights broke open a scoreless game with two runs in the top of the sixth inning. UCF added an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Dyer broke up the no-hitter with a hard shot back at Kime with one out in the bottom of the seventh for TU's only runner of the game.

In the second game, UCF's Kacie Feaster led off the game with a homerun to left field, giving UCF an early 1-0 lead. The Hurricane took the lead in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of runs. Freshman Vanessa Vice opened TU's half with a double, followed by a walk by sophomore Stephanie Chomicki. Dyer's double to center field scored Vice, while Chomicki was thrown out at the plate. After sophomore Brooke Smart walked, senior Kelli McGlasson singled just past the shortstop that allowed Dyer to score.

Sophomore Katie Lee kept the Knights off balance the next three innings, allowing only one hit in the circle for TU as TU would add three more runs in the second inning. After a pitching change by UCF, senior Angela Osbon led off the TU second with a walk. Back-to-back bunt singles by freshman Christian Timmons and Vice loaded the bases for the Hurricane. Osbon would score on a grounder to short by Dyer, just sliding in home to beat the force out. A fielding error by the UCF first baseman allowed freshman Lauren Lindsay to reach base and Timmons and Vice to score, giving TU a 5-1 lead.

After a scoreless third, the Hurricane extended its lead in the fourth inning. Chomicki was hit by a pitch with one out, then advanced on a two-out walk by Lindsay. She would score from second on a fielding error by UCF.

The Knights closed the gap with two runs in the fifth inning, including another homerun by Feaster. A two-out double by senior Amber Lamb, followed by a single from Kime cut TU's lead to 6-3. Lindsay hit her third homer of the season for the Hurricane to put TU back up by four in the bottom of the sixth.

UCF threatened again in the top of the seventh by starting the inning with back-to-back singles. A two-out double by freshman Hillary Burrow scored a fourth run for UCF and gave the Knights two runners in scoring position. However, Lee was able to induce a grounder to short for the final out of the inning.

Tulsa is now 17-17 on the season, 3-4 in Conference USA play. UCF now stands at 23-14 overall, 3-5 in league play. The two squads will finish their series on Sunday with a 12 noon contest at the Hardesty Complex. This is an hour earlier that previously scheduled.
