Arlington, Texas - The University of Tulsa continued a record-breaking season by recording its second no-hitter of the season with a 1-0 victory over Texas-Arlington at Allan Saxe Field in Arlington. The Mavericks came back in the second game for a 5-0 win over the visiting Golden Hurricane.
Freshman Jackie Lawrence pitched her second no-hitter of the season, by striking out five and walking only three. UTA had only four baserunners the whole game, with a pair of runners in the third and sixth innings.
Tulsa picked up its run in the fifth inning as sophomore Brooke Smart doubled to lead off the stanza. After a successful sacrifice bunt, she would score on a single from senior Angela Osbon.
UTA used a fielding by the Hurricane in the bottom of the third inning of the second contest to set up a grand slam. That would be all the offense the Mavs would need as Tulsa could manage only one hit. UTA added an insurance run in the fourth on back-to-back doubles.
Sophomore Katie Lee was saddled with the loss in a complete-game effort for TU. She struck out four while allowing only one earned run. Freshman Vanessa Vice recorded TU's only hit of the game with a double in the fifth. Fellow freshman Christian Timmons broke up a perfect game bid by reaching on an error in the third for TU's only other base runner.
Tulsa will take the weekend off before returning to the friendly confines of the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex on April 25th, hosting Missouri State in a non-conference doubleheader at 2 p.m.
