Tulsa Downs In-State Rival Oklahoma, 5-2

Norman, Okla. - The University of Tulsa men's tennis team (14-6) took a hotly contested doubles point from No. 32 Oklahoma, then proceeded to slice through the singles competition en route to a 5-2 win on Tuesday evening in Norman, Okla.
Tulsa, ranked No. 27 in the nation in the latest ITA/Fila National Rankings, opened by taking the doubles point with the duo of Arnau Brugues and Federico Soriano collecting an 8-6 win at the two position, and Diego Camacho and Ross Cunningham clinching the point with a 9-7 win at the top of the lineup.
Carried the momentum into singles with Will Gray putting TU up 2-0 after knocking off No. 103 Andrei Daescu by scores of 6-4, 6-2.
After closing the gap to 2-1 when Marek Velicka upset No. 108 Ricardo Soriano, the Hurricane again stormed ahead, clinching the match on the strength of wins by No. 8 Brugues over No. 58 Vaclav Kucera 6-4, 6-3, at the top of the lineup and Camacho over Ryan Thomas, 7-5, 6-2, in the six hole.
TU's Federico Soriano added a 6-2, 7-6 win at the four position over Rob McKenzie, before the Sooners' Federico Chavarria fashioned the final score of 5-2 with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over Cunningham.
Tulsa will be back in action on April 7 when it hosts Conference USA rival Rice at 10 a.m. at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
