Tulsa Golfers Place Third at The National Invitational Tournament

Tulsa's Sam Korbe turned in the best round of the day for the Hurricane with a four-under par 68.

Tucson, Arizona - The Tulsa men's golf team finished in a third-place tie at the National Invitational Tournament on Tuesday with a 12-under par 852 score on the par-72 Omni Tucson National Golf Club.

The Hurricane carded a final round even-par 288, but couldn't hold off team champion Arizona State, who shot a 14-under par 274 in final round action to close out the tournament with a 24-under par score of 840. UCLA (848) finished in second place, followed by Tulsa and host Arizona (852) and Texas A&M (855) to round out the top-five schools.

Tulsa senior Ryan Henry shot an even par round of 72 and finished with an eight-under par 208, but fell from first to second place. It marked the second tournament in a row that Henry either finished first or second. Fellow senior Sam Korbe had Tulsa's best round of the day with a four-under par 68 to finish the 54-hole event with a three-under par 213 score and an 11th place performance.

Sophomore Nicolas Geyger finished in 27th place after a final round 73 for a one-over par 217 score. Seniors Mitch Cohlmia and Brett Myers tied for 48th place with five-over par totals of 221.

Arizona State's Niklas Lemke claimed medalist honors with a five-under par 67 for a nine-under par 207 tournament total.

The second-place finish was Tulsa's fifth tournament this year out of nine events to place among the top two teams. The Hurricane has two first-place performances this year, and three second-place showings.

Tulsa will be back in action on April 13-14 at the Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate in Cary, North Carolina.
