Tulsa Golfers Lead NCAA Central Regional

Ryan Henry stormed back into contention with a four-under 68 on day two of the 2007 NCAA Central Regional.

Sugar Grove, Ill. - The 17th-ranked Tulsa men's golf team will head into Saturday's final round in first-place and holding on to a seven-stroke lead at the NCAA Central Regional. The Hurricane carded a round of eight-under par 280 at the par-72 Rich Harvest Farms Golf Course, moving up from fourth place at the start of the day.

Tulsa has a 36-hole total of 585 and leads first round leader Louisville (592) by seven strokes. Rounding out the top-10 teams are seventh-ranked Lamar (594), third-ranked Alabama (596), 14th-ranked Tennessee (603), No. 32 Minnesota (604), No. 27 Texas (605), fifth-ranked Oklahoma State (606), No. 41 Texas Tech (606) and No. 12 Texas A&M (607).

The top-10 teams after Saturday's final 18 holes will advance to the NCAA Championships, May 30-June 2, in Williamsburg, Virginia.

The Hurricane golfers teed off Friday morning on the 10th hole following a one-hour frost delay. Tulsa proceeded to shoot five-under par after the first three holes, and after the first nine holes the Hurricane was nine-under par.

Seniors Ryan Henry and Brett Myers are tied for fifth place individually with two-over par 145 totals. Henry improved nine strokes from a first round 77 to finish his second day with a four-under par 68. Myers shot a two-over par 74 today after yesterday's first round score of one-under par 71.

After finishing his first nine holes at two-under par, Henry came back and birdied the par-4 third hole and the par-5 ninth hole to close out his second round to finish with his four-under par score.

On his first nine holes, Henry had three birdie putts. He suffered his lone bogey of the round at hole 18 to post a two-under par score at the turn.

Myers birdied his first two holes before a double-bogey on the par-4 13th hole and bogeys on holes 16, 17 and 6. He began his second nine holes just as he did on the first hole of the day with a birdie on the par-4 first hole.

Senior Sam Korbe finished with a two-under par 70 today for a 148 total after two days to sit in a tie for 15th place heading into the final 18 holes. Korbe birdied holes 17, 18, 3, 4 and 9, while bogeying holes 12, 6 and 8.

Sophomore Nicolas Geyger and senior Mitch Cohlmia finished with one-under par 71 scores today. Geyger and Cohlmia are tied for 23rd place with six-over par 150 totals.

Geyger went four-under after his first nine holes, carding an eagle on the par-5 11th hole and birdying holes 13 and 14, but on his final nine holes he had three bogeys to finish the day at

Cohlmia had two birdie putts, coming on the par-4 10th hole and the par-3 14th hole, on his first nine holes. He began the back nine with two straight birdies, before suffering a double bogey on the par-3 fourth hole and suffering two more bogeys heading into his final hole at even par. Cohlmia finished the round with a birdie on the ninth hole.

Lamar's Dawie Van Der Walt sits in first place with a four-under par 140 score, holding a one stroke lead over Louisville's Daryl Fathauer's 141 total.

Teams will tee-off Saturday morning for the final 18 holes.
