On the turnovers and the penalties. On the play of the quarterback Max Hall.
On the game.
"First off I just want to say I take complete control of what happened out there tonight. I will say I am proud of our offense and the way the kids competed tonight. I take full responsibility as the coach to get our players ready and focused to play each week. On the offense side of the field, we executed at our highest level. We did a nice job on special teams; in the kickoff return game and with our punts and that was a step up for us. As a defense we are not a pressure team so we did not go after (Paul) Smith a lot tonight but we had a defensive scheme and did just not execute it the way we wanted to. They (Tulsa) ran some trick plays and had some quirks in their offensive scheme that we weren't necessary completely ready for."
"I need to go back and look at what happened on the plays that we got penalized on. I can say most of it is because of our lack of concentration and like I said at the beginning I take complete responsibility of that. Obviously when you have five turnovers you are not going to win much ball games."
"Max played a good game and put us in position to win. He completed very hard but defensively we put him in a tough situation to match score with score. Overall I thought he did play well for us."
Tulsa Head Coach Todd Graham
On the game:
"We are really proud of our players, proud of our coaches, proud of our program. Coming off the field after the game we gave Mike Case the game ball. I told him we were not going to dedicate this 10 million dollar facility on a loss. I am really proud of our kids and the training they went through. They have been strained and you could tell that tonight. It was work. We worked our tails off. I wanted to bring it physically and our kids threw some shots, and I wanted to throw the ball vertically as promised. I am really, really excited about our football team. It was a big, big win for us. Our players and coaches deserve the credit."
Senior Quarterback Paul Smith
On responding after the slow start:
"I already told somebody that I need to stop throwing picks to get myself started in a game. Everybody remembers the 2005 season where it seemed I had to throw an interception to get going. Hopefully I can get that fixed in the future and I think that just kind of flipped a switch in my head. You cannot play that way and win; you cannot put the ball in jeopardy. Some people would say I put the ball in jeopardy after that throwing to Trae Johnson and Brennan Marion, but when they are going up and getting it, you have to give them that opportunity.
