Tulsa, Okla. - After a sluggish first 20 minutes, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane posted a 38-30 victory over the UAB Blazers in front of 22,710 fans at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

Tarrion Adams rushed for a career-high 183 yards and one TD, while the Hurricane running game put up 362 yards. Tulsa's passing attack with quarterback Paul Smith at the helm amassed 333 yards and three touchdowns as the Hurricane offense totaled 695 yards.

The Hurricane took a 22-point lead with 12:01 left in the game at 38-16, but UAB never gave up, scoring 14 points in the final 7:39 to cut the Hurricane lead to eight points. Following their final score, Tulsa relied on Adams' to close out the game, as the junior carried five times for 62 yards as the Hurricane ran out the clock.

The Hurricane came out in the second half and marched 80 yards in six plays, taking just 1:16 off the clock, as Smith connected the final 35 yards to Brennan Marion. Tulsa has now scored on its first second half possession in all four games this year.

Tulsa made the score 24-10 at the 13:44 mark of the second half with that score. UAB cut the Hurricane lead to 11 points on a Swayze Waters 46-yard field goal at the 8:01 mark of the third period.

Tulsa's offense rebounded from the turnover on the previous possession that led to three points for UAB, with a 52-yard Smith pass to Marion. The drive took 1:44 off the clock and covered 80 yards in five plays.

UAB responded with another Waters field goal, as his 52-yard field goal capped a 29-yard, 12-play drive. The Blazers' score cut Tulsa's lead to 31-16. After a dropped snap by Tulsa punter Michael Such, the Blazers took the ball to the one-yard line as Tulsa's defense stopped UAB on fourth-and-goal from the two-yard line.

On the subsequent drive, Tulsa marched 99 yards in six plays highlighted by a 70-yard A.J. Whitmore run that put the ball at the UAB two-yard line. Two plays later, Smith rushed in from one yard.

UAB then put together back-to-back scoring drives of 53 and 59 yards, cutting the Hurricane lead to eight points, 38-30.

UAB's first three scores of the game came after Hurricane turnovers. Tulsa's defense, playing against a short field, allowed UAB's first four scoring drives to cover just 14, 48, 9 and 29 yards.

After a slow starting first half, the Hurricane finally got on track by scoring two second quarter touchdowns, while the Blazers added their first TD with 0:23 left in the first half.

Tulsa opened the scoring with a 39-yard Jarod Tracy field goal on Tulsa's first possession, capping an eight-play, 58-yard drive. The scoring drive was set-up by a Kenny D. Sims interception in the end zone of a Sam Hunt pass.

UAB's Swayze Waters tied the score, 3-3, at the 14:08 mark of the second quarter, capping an eight-play, 14-yard drive, which was set-up by a Kevin Sanders interception.

The first TD of the game for either team came on a Cameron Clemons' 24-yard touchdown reception in the end zone, capping a 60-yard, seven-play drive. The extra point gave Tulsa a 10-3 lead at the 10:16 mark of the second quarter.

Tulsa followed the first touchdown drive with another, giving the Hurricane a 17-3 lead with 3:16 remaining in the first half, as Adams rushed the final four yards of the possession. This drive covered 13 plays and 80 yards in an elapsed time of 5:06.

UAB's first TD came in the waning moments of the first half after Smiths' second interception. The Blazers' scoring drive went 48 yards in five plays, taking just 0:48 off the clock, Joseph Webb threw the final 28 yards to Frantrell Forrest.

At halftime, Tulsa had a 322 to 205-yard edge in total offense, while both teams had two turnovers.

Tulsa will go on the road next week for the first time in more than a month as the Hurricane continues Conference USA play against the UTEP Miners in El Paso, Texas, on Saturday.
