Huntington, W.Va. - The University of Tulsa women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Marshall on Sunday afternoon at Sam Hood Field in Huntington, West Virginia. TU fell to 6-7-2 on the season and 1-4-1 in Conference USA, while the Thundering Herd moved to 5-5-4 overall and 3-3 in the league.
"It is disappointing," Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. "We wanted to find a way to start stronger, and I thought with our early goal, we did that, but I think the fact that we have played three double-overtime games in the last nine days is taking a toll. We had some great chances in the second half, but we couldn't find the back of the net. We have had a tough road stretch and it will be great to conclude the regular season with four out of the last five games at home."
Alyvia Rogers put the Golden Hurricane on the board at the 19:58 mark, as she punched in a rebound off a corner kick, with Jennifer Kacergis picking up the assist. This was Rogers' second goal of the season and Kacergis' third assist.
Marshall battled back as Erika Duncan tied up the contest in the 34th minute, and just six minutes later Marisa Leconte scored the game-winning goal for the Thundering Herd.
Marshall out-shot TU, 22-13, but it was Tulsa who had a 10-8 advantage in shots on goal. Emily McElrath, Kacergis and Rogers each had two shots on goal.
Kendall Harclerode logged all 90 minutes in goal for the Golden Hurricane and picked up six saves for 57 saves on the season.
TU will return to action on Friday, Oct. 17th against UAB. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
