Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa cross country teams travel to The University of Memphis to compete in the Conference USA Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1. The No. 16-ranked Tulsa men's team heads into the conference championships as the highest nationally-ranked men's squad in the league, and Alex Becker is looking to repeat as the women's individual champion after capturing the title last year running the 5k course in 17:34.
The women's 5K race will begin at 10 a.m., and the men's 8K race starts at 11 a.m. from the Mike Rose Soccer Complex. All eight men's teams and all 12 women's squads will be represented at the event.
The Tulsa men's team is coming off of a pair of impressive finishes over the last month, placing second at the Notre Dame Invitational on Oct. 3 and seventh at the Pre-Nationals on Oct. 18.
The women's team is looking to improve on their last two performances from the Notre Dame Invitational and Pre-Nationals where they finished outside of the top-10 in both races.
"A conference championship would mean a lot to us," Head Coach Steve Gulley said. "We really respect the other teams, especially UTEP on the men's side and Rice on the women's side who have finished ahead of us the last few years. Our job is to step up and challenge them."
Last year, the men and women both finished second at the conference championships. The men's team finished behind UTEP, who has won the last three Conference USA Championships, and the women's team finished behind Rice.
The Hurricane will run next at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships on Nov. 15 in Stillwater, Okla.
