Birmingham, Ala. - The University of Tulsa could not catch a break in the late innings of Sunday's series finale at UAB, as the Blazers took advantage of some very timely hitting for a 3-2 come-from-behind victory in eight innings. UAB improves to 20-25 on the year, 7-8 in Conference USA play. Tulsa falls to 21-18 overall, 8-7 in league play, but maintains its third place spot in the conference standings.

The Golden Hurricane scored first, with a run in the top of the third inning. Senior Lindsey Tower led off the frame with a walk. A throwing error by UAB on a grounder from sophomore Lauren Lindsay, gave TU a pair of base runners with one out. Sophomore Christian Timmons then singled to left field, allowing Tower to score for a 1-0 TU lead.

Freshman Jordan Kinard kept the lead for TU through the first six innings. She allowed only two hits through the first six and two-thirds innings. With two-out and a 2-2 count, Amanda Allen was hit by a pitch. A TU throwing error on a delayed steal allowed her to advance to third. A Holly Krzan single through the left side allowed Allen to score the tying run.

Junior Kailey Yarmer led off the extra stanza with a double to left field. After a successful sacrifice bunt from Tower, TU had the go-ahead run at third base. Lindsay then hit a flyball deep enough to centerfield that allowed Yarmer to tag and score for a 2-1 Hurricane lead.

The Blazers got a one-out walk from Kayla Harris in the bottom of the eighth. After Cameron Skates was caught looking at strike three for the second out, a bang-bang play that would have ended the inning, allowed inning to continue. Jennifer Nelson, who had struck out six times in her previous six at-bats against Kinard, took a 2-2 pitch to left centerfield. Harris along with Laura Callaway came in to score the winning runs for the Blazers.

Tulsa is schedule to return to the friendly confines of the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex on Wednesday, April 9, to host former Missouri Valley Conference foe Wichita State in a double header. Weather permitting, the twin bill is set for a 2 p.m.
