Tulsa Golfers Open Season at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate

Birmingham, Alabama- - The University of Tulsa men's golf team opens the 2008-2009 season at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate in Birmingham, Alabama this Monday -Tuesday, Sept. 22-23. The 54-hole tournament will be played at the 7,114-yard Jack Nicklaus designed Shoal Creek Golf Course. Teams will be play 36 holes on Monday and finish with 18 on Tuesday.
Tulsa is one of four teams making their debut appearance at the Intercollegiate. Other schools making their debut are Baylor, No. 18 East Tennessee State and No. 20 Wake Forest. Returning from last years field is, tournament host UAB, No. 16 Auburn, Georgia Southern, LSU, Ole Miss, North Florida, Oklahoma and defending champion Texas Tech.
Ten of the 12 teams in this year's field, concluded last season ranked in the top-75.
For the opening two rounds Tulsa will be paired with Baylor and Oklahoma.
Leading the Golden Hurricane this year is senior Nicolas Geyger. During his three-year career at TU, Geyger has 10 top-10 finishes including four tournament titles. Last season Geyger defended his championship at The Landfall Tradition he recorded his second victory of the season at the National Invitational. For his efforts Geyger was named second-team All Conference USA.
