Tulsa Post-Game Notes vs. UTEP

Tulsa won the toss and deferred.

UTEP's opening drive field goal was the first time this year that an opponent has scored on their opening drive of the game.

UTEP's 13 first quarter points is the most allowed by the Hurricane this year in the first period. The previous high was 10 points by Oklahoma.

This was the second game of the year that Tulsa had been held scoreless (13-0) in the first quarter. The other scoreless first quarter was at Oklahoma.

A.J. Whitmore had his second rushing touchdown of the season with a 19-yard TD run, and the 11th of his career. He has now totaled 16 total career touchdowns (11 rushing and 5 receiving).

True freshman Dexter McCoil had his first career interception in the second quarter as he intercepted a UTEP pass in the end zone.

John Destin had his team-leading fourth interception of the season in the second quarter. It was the fifth interception of his career.

Tulsa trailed at halftime for the third time this season, as the other two times came against #12 Oklahoma and #5 Boise State.

Tulsa's 94-yard drive on 11 plays in the third quarter was the longest of the season. The previous long was 91 yards against Rice.

Senior Slick Shelley, in his second season, went over 1,000 career receiving yards giving the Hurricane four current players each with more than 1,000 career receiving yards. Shelley now has 1,038 career receiving yards.

Charles Clay had his second-best rushing day of his career with 84 yards. His career-best was 112 yards on 11 carries against UTEP in 2007.

UTEP's touchdown run in the fourth quarter was the first rushing touchdown allowed by Tulsa this season. It took to the 28th quarter of the season for a Tulsa opponent to score a rushing touchdown
