TULSA, Oklahoma - Houston's Matt Hogan's fourth field goal of the game came as time expired giving the 13th-ranked Cougars a 46-45 victory over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in front of 20,243 fans at H.A. Chapman Stadium on Saturday night.

Four turnovers, including two interceptions and two fumbles, and a 98-yard Houston kickoff return doomed the Hurricane in a high-scoring affair against the Cougars.

Tulsa's Charles Clay capped a 73-yard, 10 play touchdown drive with a one-yard run with 3:28 remaining in the game to put the Hurricane ahead 45-37. But the nation's top-ranked offense marched 61 yards in 13 plays in just 3:02 to close the gap to 45-43.

The Cougars two-point conversion failed as Tulsa's Tanner Antle sacked UH quarterback Case Keenum with just 0:21 on the clock, presumably giving the Hurricane a 45-43 victory. But, the Cougars recovered the subsequent onside kick at the Houston 39-yard line. Three plays later, Houston traveled to the Tulsa 34-yard line giving Hogan the opportunity to be the hero for the Cougars.

Tulsa's G.J. Kinne became the first quarterback in school history to pass for 300 yards and rush for 100 yards in the same game, as he finished with 334 passing yards and three TDs, and 100 rushing yards and one touchdown. Charles Clay scored four touchdowns, two rushing and two receiving for the Hurricane, while Damaris Johnson totaled a career-best 324 all-purpose yards. For the Cougars, quarterback Case Keenum, the nation's total offense leader, completed 40-of-60 passes for 522 yards and three TDs.

Houston totaled 695 total yards on a new Tulsa opponent record of 100 plays, while the Hurricane gained a season-best 534 total yards.

Tulsa took a four-point lead in the third period after a fumbled punt by Houston's Tyron Carrier and recovery by Tulsa's Laquentin Black, led to a Hurricane touchdown at the 12:45 mark to put the home team ahead 28-24. Tulsa's Clay scored his third touchdown of the game on an eight-yard pass from Kinne on the first play of the drive.

Houston closed the gap to one point on a 24-yard field goal, as the Cougars took its first possession and marched 71 yards in 11 plays. Tulsa equaled that three points on a 25-yard field goal by Kevin Fitzpatrick at the 5:43 mark of the third quarter, culminating an eight-play, 59-yard drive, to take a 31-27 lead.

The Hurricane defense held Houston on its next possession, and the Tulsa offense went 80 yards in five plays for a 38-27 lead as Kinne ran in from five yards out to cap the five-play drive in just 1:23.

The Cougars wasted little time in answering with a score of their own as Tyron Carries ran the kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown, cutting the Tulsa lead to four points, 38-34. On Tulsa's next possession, Houston intercepted its second Tulsa pass of the game, this one at the UH 15-yard line, but the Hurricane defense forced a punt.

Tulsa's first play of the next drive went for 15 yards but Jamad Williams fumbled at the end of the play, thus giving the Cougars the ball at their own 48-yard line. Houston marched to the one-yard line, but the Hurricane defense held on a fourth down from the one-yard line.

However, the Hurricane gained just three yards before punting to the Cougars at the Tulsa 46-yard line.

Houston cut the Tulsa lead to one-point on Matt Hogan's third field goal of the game, this time from 26 yards, with 8:08 left in the game, capping a seven-play 37-yard drive. Tulsa then went on its 73-yard scoring drive to take an eight-point lead with 3:28 left in the game.

To start the game, Tulsa took its opening possession 80 yards in seven plays and taking 2:26 off the clock as Charles Clay ran in for the score from three yards out.

On the subsequent possession, Keenum threw the final four yards of a 65-yard drive to James Cleveland knotting the score a 7-7 at the 7:48 mark of the first period.

Tulsa took its second possession at their 25-yard line and went just 1:06 before scoring again, as Kinne threw 60 yards to Charles Clay for a 14-7 lead, capping a 75-yard, three-play drive.

The Cougars knotted the score at 14-14 on an 18-yard Charles Sims run with just 0:58 left in the first quarter, capping a five-play, 81-yard drive in just 1:58. The combined 28 points was the most in the first half for a Hurricane game since Tulsa and UTEP combined for 56 points on Oct. 18th of last season.

Houston took its first lead of the game at the 10:33 mark of the second quarter on a Matt Hogan 32-yard field goal. The drive started from the UH six-yard line, and after an apparent fumble and safety in the end zone was overturned, the Cougars marched 79 yards for the score.

Keenum threw a 36-yard TD pass to Cleveland for the second time in the game to take a 24-14 lead. The score capped a four-play, 77-yard drive, taking just 0:59 off the clock.

The Hurricane took the subsequent possession 75 yards in nine plays to make the score 24-21, as Ricky Johnson took in Kinne's second touchdown pass of the game in the end zone for a 15-yard touchdown.

Tulsa's opportunity to take the halftime lead ended in a tipped ball interception at the two-yard line with 12 seconds remaining on the game clock

The two teams combined for 722 yards (310 for Tulsa and 412 for Houston) and 45 first-half points, the most points in a Tulsa game since last year when the two teams tallied 59 points and 582 yards in Houston.
