Tulsa, Oklahoma - Tulsa's 14th-ranked men's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to sixth-ranked SMU on Wednesday night at Westcott Field in Dallas, Texas. The Golden Hurricane fell to 7-4-1 on the season and 1-2-1 in Conference USA, while the Mustangs moved to 12-1 overall and 4-1 in the league.
"It is just frustrating right now," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "We approached the game with the right mind set, but we've been our own worst enemy at times and it is unfortunate. For the majority of the game we executed our game plan and connected on passes, but it just isn't going our way. We just have to keep at it and eventually the results will be in our favor. We have to move on and get ready for another good conference opponent in UAB."
Jake Dobkins, a sophomore defender, picked up his first career goal off a pass from Corey Albertson with just 2:21 ticked off the clock. Just over two minutes later SMU's Adam Still netted the game-tying goal from 75-yards out, but Albertson picked up his second goal of the season in the 42nd minute to give TU the advantage heading into the break.
In the second half, Arthur Ivo tied up the contest with his goal off a free kick in the 62nd minute and Robbie Derschang netted the game-winner in the 69th minute from 20 yards out.
Chris Taylor led the TU attack with six shots, while Ashley McInnes had five attempts, and Albertson and Omar Mata each had three shots. Michael Murray logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up four saves.
Tulsa had a 26-20 advantage in shots, including a 9-7 lead in shots on goal, and the Golden Hurricane had an 8-3 lead in corner kicks.
TU will return to action at UAB on Saturday, Oct. 23rd. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Birmingham.
