Nationally Ranked TU Cross Country

Oct. 5, 2010

NEW ORLEANS - The University of Tulsa men's and women's cross country teams both entered the USTFCCCA Division I Polls with national rankings of No. 21, the organization announced today.

For the women, this is their first national ranking in school history. The men re-enter the rankings after falling out late last season.

"I'm proud the girls are getting the recognition they have worked so hard for," Coach Steve Gulley said. "We have a lot of season left, but we're happy with what we've done up to this point."

Both teams are the only squads from Conference USA to earn rankings this week, as UTEP and SMU both fell out of the women's poll.

Tulsa competed last weekend in the highly competitive Notre Dame Invitational and passed its first real test of the season with flying colors. Both fields were littered with teams ranked nationally, and the Golden Hurricane took down most of them to prove they, too, are among the nation's elite. a

The TU men placed fourth out of 21 teams and defeated five ranked foes. The women's side finished in eighth out of 24 teams and beat six ranked opponents.

Tulsa is idle this week and will next see action at Pre-Nationals Oct. 16.
