TULSA, Okla. - Freshman guard Jordan Clarkson announced his presence with authority as he led The University of Tulsa to an 80-48 exhibition victory over Missouri Science & Technology Monday evening inside Reynolds Center.

The score was tight at halftime as TU held just a 36-31 advantage, but the home team used an offensive explosion to outscore the Miners 44-17 in the second half.

Clarkson went 6 of 7 from the field and led all scorers with 16 points in his first game as a member of the Hurricane. He also added four rebounds and three assists.

Senior Justin Hurtt, a Preseason First Team All-C-USA member, went 5-for-9 and finished with 14 points. Sophomore Scottie Haralson knocked down four three-point field goals to contribute 12 points, and junior Steven Idlet added nine points and eight rebounds.

Tulsa shot 50 percent from the field and drained 9 of 19 from behind the arc. The Golden Hurricane held Missouri S&T to just 33 percent shooting for the game, and the Miners shot just 31 percent from downtown.

Tulsa opened up a six-point lead early in the game on the strength of three trey's from Clarkson and Hurtt.

The lead was pushed to 11 following a seven-point run late in the half, but Missouri S&T answered back with an 11-2 run of its own to climb to within two at 33-31.

Clarkson was fouled with seven seconds to play in the opening half and converted the traditional three-point play to give the home blue and gold a 36-31 halftime advantage.

Clarkson debuted with a 4-for-4, 12-point effort in the first half to lead TU, and the Golden Hurricane shot 45 percent from the field and went 7-for-15 from behind the three-point line in the opening 20 minutes.

The second half began with a layup from junior D.J. Magley, and Tulsa was off and running with a 35-6 run that spanned nearly 16 minutes of the second stanza.

The Miners were able to score nine points in the last few minutes to push the final score to 80-17.

Bryce Foster led Missouri A&T with 13 points, and he was the only Miner to reach double figures.

Tulsa moved to 2-0 all-time against Missouri A&T. The first meeting between the two schools came in 1932-33, which was won by TU 44-22.

The Golden Hurricane will have its second and final exhibition game at 7:05 p.m. Nov. 7 inside Reynolds Center.
