Softball Plays Host to Northern Iowa Thursday

TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa softball team plays host to Northern Iowa Thursday at 6 p.m. to open a 12-game home stand at the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex.

Tulsa is 15-11 overall and coming off a weekend in which it won two of three games at UAB to open Conference USA play, and a split on Tuesday, defeating Mercer and falling to Georgia State. The Hurricane has won eight of 11 games over the last two weeks, and has won 12 of its last 16 games.
The Golden Hurricane is hitting .283 (201-for-709) on the season with 129 runs, 121 RBI, 32 doubles, 29 home runs, 84 walks, a .451 slugging percentage and a .363 on-base percentage. TU pitchers carry a 3.23 ERA in 175.1 innings, allowing 167 hits, 96 runs, 81 earned runs, 82 walks, 185 strikeouts, and a .250 opponent batting average.
Tulsa is led in hitting by senior right fielder Lauren Lindsay who is hitting .456 (36-for-79) with 26 runs, 28 RBI, seven doubles, 13 home runs, 19 walks, a 1.038 slugging percentage, and a .560 on-base percentage. Freshman shortstop Samantha Cobb leads the team with 31 RBI and is hitting .374 (34-for-91) with 17 runs, nine home runs, three walks, a .714 slugging percentage and a .396 on-base percentage.
In the circle, freshman Kalynn Schrock is 5-3 with a 2.72 ERA and has allowed 29 hits, 23 runs, 18 earned runs, 23 walks, 56 strikeouts and a .175 opponent batting average in 46.1 innings. Junior Jordan Kinard is 5-3 with a 3.10 ERA and has allowed 60 hits, 30 runs, 26 earned runs, 31 walks, 68 strikeouts and a .265 opponent batting average in 58.2 innings. Senior Jackie Lawrence is 5-5 with a 3.68 ERA and has allowed 78 hits, 43 runs, 37 earned runs, 28 walks, 61 strikeouts and a .283 opponent batting average in 70.1 innings.
Northern Iowa (11-10) enters the weekend with a .268 batting average (144-for-538) with 103 runs, 87 RBI, 19 doubles, five triples, 20 home runs, 70 walks, a .430 slugging percentage, and a .359 on-base percentage. Panther pitchers carry a 3.72 ERA in 131.2 innings, allowing 145 hits, 84 runs, 70 earned runs, 43 walks, 76 strikeouts and a .274 opponent batting average.
Tulsa trails the all-time series against Northern Iowa, 9-6. TU won the last meeting, 7-1, in 2006. The series dates to Tulsa's days in the Missouri Valley Conference, and during that time, the series was tied, 4-4.
Tulsa's opens home C-USA play this weekend with a series against East Carolina beginning with a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. and concluding with a single game Sunday at noon.
