Tulsa's Carney Wins State Amateur Tournament

Stephen Carney won the 2010 Oklahoma Golf Association State Amateur Championship.

Tulsa, Oklahoma - University of Tulsa men's golfer Stephen Carney captured the Oklahoma Golf Association State Amateur Championship on Wednesday at Cedar Ridge Country Club.

Carney, a junior to-be at Tulsa, won six matches in three days and captured a 5 and 4 victory over Andrew Green in the final match on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, Carney claimed a 1-up victory over Ian Davis of Edmond, an Oklahoma State signee, in a morning semifinal match.

Carney had par saves on holes 10 and 11 in the final match. He then knocked in a birdie on the par-4 12th hole and won the 242-yard par 3 13th hole with a par. A hole later on the par 5 14th hole he hit a birdie to seal the victory.

The Tulsa Union High School product had a 74.0 stroke average for the Hurricane in his sophomore season and placed among the top-20 in five of 10 tournaments for Tulsa last season.
