Four Tulsa Teams Earned Conference USA Sport Academic Awards

Irving, Texas - Conference USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced today the Sport Academic Awards, which are given to the team in each conference-sponsored sport with the highest GPA for the academic year. The University of Tulsa had four teams among the award winners.
Golden Hurricane teams honored were men's cross country (3.54 GPA), women's cross country (3.57 GPA), women's rowing (3.28 GPA) and women's track and field (3.44 GPA).
Rice produced six different teams with the highest GPA for their respective sport, including women's tennis, which posted the highest annual GPA of any sport with a 3.67 GPA. Tulsa was second with four teams honored, while East Carolina and Memphis each had two teams earn awards. South Carolina, UAB, UCF and UTEP each had one team honored.
The Owls also garnered the Institutional Excellence Award, which is given to the C-USA institution with the highest grade point average during the current academic year for all student-athletes in conference-sponsored sports. Rice student-athletes combined for an annual GPA of 3.167. All Tulane, Tulsa and UCF student-athletes also combined for a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
