Tulsa, Okla. - Three underclassmen combined for four goals for the Tulsa women's soccer team in a 4-0 victory over cross-town rival Oral Roberts on Sunday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU moved to 3-1 on the season, while ORU fell to 2-1 overall.
"I thought it was a good win," Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. "The game was emotional because it is a cross-town rival, but our girls played well. The four goals were well deserved. I am proud of Claire for scoring two goals, Rachel's goal was probably the best goal of the season and Shelby's goal capitalized on the free kick."
Freshman Claire Nicholson knocked in a goal from three yards out off an assist from sophomore Stephanie Aitken at the 30:04 mark, while classmate Shelby Martin drilled in a free kick in the 39th minute to give TU a 2-0 advantage heading into the break.
In the second half, sophomore Rachel Garcia headed in a free kick taken by senior Brandi Neilson at the 58:57 mark and Nicholson punched in the final goal of the contest off a free kick in the 87th minute.
Tulsa out-shot Oral Roberts, 16-7, including a 10-5 advantage on shots-on-goal. Katie Bykowski logged all 90 minutes in goal, earning five saves and her second shutout of the season.
Tulsa will return to action on Friday, Sept. 3 against Murray State. Game time is set for 7:35 p.m. at the Hurricane Stadium.
