Tulsa, Oklahoma -
Tulsa sophomore Rebecca Handley headed in the game-winning goal in the 98th minute to give the Golden Hurricane a 2-1 overtime victory over Murray State on Friday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU moved to 4-1 on the season, while MSU fell to 1-2-2 overall.
"This is a special team," Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. "They never panicked, even after giving up the goal, the team stuck to the game plan. Good teams find a way to win and we did that tonight. We don't have just one person scoring or playing on defense, it is a team effort and I am proud of them for that."
Claire Nicholson earned her fifth goal of the season at the 55:33 mark as she punched in a cross from Kelsey Killion, but the Racers' Katie Wilson evened up the score in the 72nd minute as she drilled in a goal from 30 yards out on the right side. The game remained tied until Handley headed in a cross from Killion at the 97:57 mark for the Golden Goal.
The Golden Hurricane out-shot MSU, 22-9, including a 13-7 advantage in shots on goal. Stephanie Aitken led TU's attack with seven shots, while Brandi Neilson added three attempts. Katie Bykowski logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up six saves.
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 5th against Missouri State. Game time is set for 1:05 p.m. at the Hurricane Stadium. The first 100 TU fans will receive a free mouse pad.
