El Paso, Texas - The Tulsa women's soccer team battled UTEP to a 1-1 double-overtime tie on Friday night at University Field in El Paso, Texas. Both teams moved to identical 10-5-3 overall marks and 4-3-2 records in Conference USA.
"Everybody played hard and in these type of games you have to dig deep," Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. "We had three or four great chances, but we just couldn't get a second goal. The team battled for the entire game and didn't get frustrated. It has been a while since we have given up an early goal and had to battle back, so tonight was a good learning experience for us."
Brittany Kindzierski scored a quick goal for UTEP as she punched in a goal off an assist from Lauren Katada at the 5:56 mark. TU was unable to find the back of the net in the first half, as the Miners took a 1-0 lead into the break.
In the second half, Bradi Hinch evened the score in the 61st minute with Claire Nicholson earning the assist, but the game remained tied for the next 29 minutes in regulation and through two 10-minute overtime periods to end in a tie.
Hinch and Lindsay Kirch each had three shots, while Jordan O'Brien and Camille Pelley had two attempts apiece. Katie Bykowski logged all 110 minutes in goal and picked up three saves.
The Miners edged the Golden Hurricane, 14-13, in shots, while TU held a 5-4 lead in shots on goal and had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 23rd against Colorado College. Game time is set for 1:00 pm in Colorado Springs, Colo.
