Week of Feb. 22 - 28
Senior Paula Whiting (Indoor Track) has maintained a 3.93 grade-point average in exercise sports science. The Alexandra, New Zealand, native won both the Mile and the 3,000 meters at the 2011 Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Houston this past weekend. She ran the mile in 4:50.91 and captured the 3,000 meters in 9:31.00, which was less than one second off the C-USA meet record. Whiting earned 20 of Tulsa's 76 team points, leading the Golden Hurricane to a school-record second-place finish. The men's track and field team also finished second.

MEN'S BASKETBALL (16-12, 9-5 C-USA)
Lost at Marshall 79-61 (Tulsa was upset against a hot Thundering Herd squad that was able to jump out to a big lead and hold on for the victory. Freshman guard Jordan Clarkson led Tulsa with 16 points off the bench and senior guard Justin Hurtt added 15. Tulsa shot 41 percent from the field and was 2-for-13 from behind the three-point line. The team was able to connect on 17 of 24 free throws.)
Defeated Tulane 66-59 (The Golden Hurricane kept pace in a highly-competitive Conference USA with a huge home win over the Green Wave. Tulsa is a game behind UAB for first place in the conference, tied with three other teams for second with two games to play in the regular season. Hurtt led TU with 24 points, and junior forward Steven Idlet added 16 points, nine rebounds and a season-high four blocks.)
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (5-18, 1-14 C-USA)
Lost at East Carolina 65-55 (Sophomore guard Taleya Mayberry filled the box score with 15 points, five assists and five steals in 33 minutes in a loss to East Carolina. Junior forward Chanice Scott added 13 points and freshman forward Loren McDaniel added seven points and seven rebounds. Tulsa shot 36 percent from the field and knocked down 4 of 15 from downtown. Tulsa got outrebounded 38-34 and forced 27 Panther turnovers.)
Lost at Tulane 73-62 (Senior guard Tatum Beer had one of her best games of the season as she connected on 4 of 6 trey's and scored a game-high 17 points against a usually staunch Green Wave defense. Junior forward Denise Lewis had 16 points and six rebounds, and Mayberry added 15 points. Scott contributed eight rebounds and five assists.)
SOFTBALL (10-5, 0-0 C-USA)
Defeated Creighton 5-3 (Freshman pitcher Aimee Creger served as the designated player and went 2-for-2 to help lead Tulsa to a win over the Blue Jays in the first game of the UT Arlington Classic. Senior right fielder Lauren Menke drove home two runs and sophomore pitcher Lacey Middlebrooks allowed three runs on five hits during a complete-game winning effort.)
Won at UT Arlington 3-0 (Creger threw the second no-hitter of her brief career in a shutout win over the host Mavericks. Sophomore shortstop Samantha Cobb was the lone member of the Golden Hurricane to collect multiple hits, and three different players scored the three runs.)
Defeated Centenary College 11-0 (5 innings) (TU blanked Centenary for the first of two run-rules over the Cyclones. Creger led the way from the dish with a 3-for-3 effort, and she also drove home two runs and scored once. Sophomore outfielder Caitlin Everett had two runs and two RBI, freshman outfielder Haley Henshaw had two RBI and freshman second baseman Shelby Blanton, freshman third baseman Jill Barrett, and Middlebrooks each scored twice. Senior pitcher Jordan Kinard allowed just one hit in five innings, while striking out nine and allowing just one free pass.)
Defeated Centenary College 8-0 (5 innings) (Everett went 3-for-3 to lead Tulsa to another shortened victory over CCU. Three other members of the Golden Hurricane had two hits, with Barrett and senior first baseman Kelly Chapman recording two RBI apiece. .)
Defeated Creighton 2-1 (9 innings) (Henshaw hit a single to right field in the bottom of the ninth to drive home Blanton and give Tulsa the 2-1 victory to win the UT Arlington Classic with a perfect 5-0 record. Creger threw all nine innings, allowing just one run on five hits. She struck out 15 and walked just four. Barrett was the lone member of the Golden Hurricane to record multiple hits, and Everett scored the other run.)
MEN'S TENNIS (8-3, 2-0 C-USA) Nationally Ranked No. 38
Defeated No. 47 TCU 5-2 (TU took down the Horned Frogs in one of the most intense matches of the season. The Case Tennis Center was rocking as the Golden Hurricane closed out one of its biggest rivals. Tulsa lost the doubles point, but rallied to take five of the six singles matches. Junior Ashley Watling and sophomores Marcelo Arevalo, Clifford Marsland and Alastair Barnes all won their singles matches. Freshman Japie de Klerk won his singles match in straight sets to improve to 10-0 this year.)
WOMEN'S TENNIS (9-2, 0-0 C-USA) Nationally Ranked No. 40
Defeated No. 56 Wichita State 4-3 (Tulsa collected its fourth-consecutive victory with a triumph over WSU. The Golden Hurricane picked up the doubles point and split the six singles matches in the first outdoor match of the season. Junior Anastasia Erofeeva won both her singles and doubles matches, teaming with fellow junior Ewa Szatkowska at No. 2 doubles to claim an 8-2 victory. Sophomore Michelle Farley and freshman Sam Vickers also picked up singles wins, and the doubles team of seniors Alexandra Kichoutkin and Jo-Anne Karaitiana won their match at No. 1 doubles.)
INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
Competed at the Conference USA Championships (Both the men and women finished second in Houston. The men tied their school-record performance from a year ago, while the women's finish was also a school record and was two spots better from last year's fourth-place finish. Senior Paula Whiting (Mile, 3,000 meters) and sophomore Chris O'Hare (800 meters, Mile) both won two gold medals. O'Hare's time of 1:51.06 in the 800 meters was a meet record and was also the fifth-fastest time in school history. Junior Tom Marshall won the 3,000 meters in 8:16.24, just .75 seconds ahead of UTEP's Justice Chirchir. Senior Brianna Steel won the pentathlon with a school-record 3,784 points. Sophomore Alex Sementelli broke the school record in the heptathlon with 4,773 points to finish fifth. Tulsa's men's Distance Medley Relay team won the gold medal in a time of 10:08.74.)
