SOFTBALL (43-13, 19-5 C-USA)
Defeated Marshall 10-0 (5 innings)
(Tulsa opened the 2011 Conference USA Championship with a run-rule over eight seed Marshall. The Golden Hurricane entered the third inning at a 0-0 draw, but then the team scored three in that frame and blew the game open with a seven-run fourth. Tulsa scored 10 runs on just seven hits. Sophomore shortstop Samantha Cobb led the way with a 2-for-3 effort. She also drove home three runners and scored once. Sophomore centerfielder Caitlin Everett was 1-for-2 and scored twice. Senior first baseman Kelly Chapman also scored twice. Freshman Aimee Creger improved to 23-2 with yet another shutout performance. She threw all 5.0 innings and allowed just two hits, while striking out nine.)

Defeated UCF 6-1 (TU advanced to the championship match after shutting down the Knights. Tulsa scored two runs in the first and never looked back, as Creger allowed just one run on four hits in a complete-game effort. Everett had a stellar day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run. Cobb drove home two runs and TU outhit UCF 10-4. Cobb and Chapman both hit home runs in the contest.)

Lost at East Carolina 4-1 (The Golden Hurricane received a home run from Chapman, but TU could only muster three hits on East Carolina, falling in the Conference USA Championship game. Everett, Chapman and freshman third baseman Jill Barrett picked up the three hits, while senior Jordan Kinard took the loss after allowing four runs on five hits in 3.0 innings. Creger threw the final 4.0 innings, shutout out the Pirates and allowing just four hits.)

MEN'S TENNIS (21-7, 6-0 C-USA) Nationally Ranked No. 36
Won at No. 20 Oklahoma 4-2
(The Golden Hurricane battled windy conditions and avenged two earlier losses to the Sooners in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship. The Golden Hurricane earned the doubles point after the team won at No. 1 and No. 3. Tulsa earned its first upset of the weekend after picking up singles victories from sophomores Marcelo Arevalo, Grant Ive and Tristan Jackson.)

Defeated No. 13 Texas 4-3 (Tulsa lost 6-1 to the Longhorns earlier in the season, but it was the Golden Hurricane that would get the better of the Big 12 foe in the tournament. Coach Vince Westbrook earned both his first trip to the Round of 16 and his first victory over the University of Texas (1-11). TU won the doubles point by picking up victories at the top two spots, and the team also earned wins from Arevalo and sophomore Clifford Marsland to push ahead 3-1. Texas was able to mount a comeback and square the match at 3-3, but Ive sealed the trip to California for TU with a three-set thriller at the fifth position.)

WOMEN'S TENNIS (26-3, 3-0 C-USA) Nationally Ranked No. 22
Defeated No. 44 Nebraska 4-2
(TU advanced to the second round of the 2011 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship for the fourth time in school history with the second victory of the season over the Cornhuskers. The Golden Hurricane picked up the doubles point on the strength of wins at No. 2 and No. 3, and TU won singles matches by senior Jo-Anne Karaitiana, sophomore Michelle Farley and freshman Sam Vickers.)

Lost at No. 10 Michigan 4-1 (TU was unable to reach the first Round of 16 in school history as the team lost a 4-1 decision to the Wolverines. Vickers picked up the lone point for the Golden Hurricane with a straight-set victory at No. 5 singles. She teamed with junior Bonny Davidson at No. 3 doubles to earn another win, but the doubles point went in favor of Michigan as the host school won at both the top two positions. UM also won at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 singles to eliminate Tulsa from the tournament. TU saw its 21-match win streak come to a halt.)
