The Tulsa women's soccer team tamed the Sam Houston State Bearkats with a 6-0 victory on Sunday afternoon to claim the Tulsa Invitational Championship, sponsored by Double Tree Warren Place at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. The Golden Hurricane moved to 3-0 on the season, while SHSU fell to 1-3 overall.

"That was the sharpest we've looked from the starting whistle throughout an entire game," Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. "I think the team is getting comfortable with our system and with each other. I think Jim Rhein has done a great job with our backline and I think their structure is a big part of our three shutouts this season. Josh Isaacs has really gotten Katie Bykowski (Tulsa, Okla.) as sharp as I've ever seen her, which gives our midfield and forwards the confidence to go forward and create chances because of the stability behind them."

Lindsay Kirch (Carrollton, Texas) put Tulsa on the board at the 15:39 mark as she drilled in a ball from 18 yards out up the middle. Claire Nicholson (Overland Park, Kan.) made it 2-0 as she also hit a straight shot up the middle off of passes from Claire Hulcer (St. Louis, Mo.) and Bradi Hinch (Tulsa, Okla.).

Stephanie Aitken (Tulsa, Okla.) put two into the back of the net in just over 10 minutes off the clock, with goals at the 33:28 and 43:42 marks, to give the Golden Hurricane a 4-0 lead at the break.

Kirch added her second goal of the contest in the 55th minute and Emily Hahn scored in the 57th minute to give Tulsa the 6-0 win.

TU had a commanding 31-6 advantage in shots, including a 22-2 lead in shots-on-goal, and had an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Aitken had a team-best five shots and scored two goals, while Nicholson, Kirch and Miranda Zoller each had four attempts. Katie Bykowski logged all 90 minutes in goal, recorded two saves and picked up her third-straight shutout on the year.

For her efforts, Bykowski earned the Golden Glove Award in the tournament as she had seven saves and didn't allow a goal. She, along with teammates Lexis Learmonth (Southlake, Texas), Katelynn Duncan (Broken Arrow, Okla.), Aitken and Kirch were named to the All-Tournament team.

Tulsa will return to action on Friday, Sept. 2nd against Notre Dame. Game time is set for 7:30 pm in South Bend, Ind.
