Week of August 19 - 28
Junior goalkeeper Katie Bykowski (Women's Soccer) has maintained a 3.29 grade-point average in marketing. The Tulsa, Okla., native recorded three shutout victories over the first week of the season to lead TU to a 3-0 record. She saved nine shots over the course of three games and helped lead the Golden Hurricane to the Tulsa Invitational Championship, sponsored by Double Tree Warren Place. This is the second-straight year that Bykowski has won the first honor of the season.

MEN'S SOCCER (0-1, 0-0 C-USA) Ranked No. 29 in the nation
Lost to SIU-Edwardsville 3-1 (Sophomore midfielder James Gulley scored in the team's season opener, but the Golden Hurricane dropped a 3-1 decision to SIU-Edwardsville at Hurricane Stadium. Freshman forward Abe Matamoros picked up his first-career point as he assisted on Gulley's marker. Sophomore goalkeeper Cody Mumma allowed the three goals and played 74:22. Sophomore goalkeeper Michael Murray played the final 15:38 and did not take a shot.)
WOMEN'S SOCCER (3-0, 0-0 C-USA)
Won at Oral Roberts 1-0 (TU opened the season with a shutout victory over cross-town rival Oral Roberts. The Golden Hurricane outshot ORU 16-7 and had seven corner kicks to zero for the Golden Eagles. Senior midfielder Danielle Hughes scored the game-winner in the 77th minute, and she was assisted by sophomore forward Claire Nicholson. Junior goalkeeper Katie Bykowski saved two shots and recorded the shutout.)
Defeated Stephen F. Austin 1-0 (Tulsa won its first home game of the season with its second-consecutive shutout. The team received an unassisted goal from junior forward Rebecca Handley in the third minute, and Bykowski posted her second-straight shutout after saving all five shots on goal. The Golden Hurricane outshot SFA 16-12.)
Defeated Sam Houston State 6-0 (The Golden Hurricane scored four first-half goals and put in two in the second period in a rout of the Bearkats. TU outshot SHSU 32-6, and the home team put 22 shots on goal in rout to winning the 2011 Tulsa Invitational Championship, sponsored by Double Tree Warren Place. Sophomore forward Lindsay Kirch notched the game-winner in the 16th minute, and she added another in the 55th minute. Junior forward Stephanie Aitken scored twice, and solo goals were added by both Nicholson and freshman forward Emily Hahn. Sophomore midfielder Bradi Hinch picked up two assists. Junior defender Claire Hulcer, sophomore midfielder Jordan O'Brien and Hughes each added a helper. Bykowski saved both shots that came her way and has yet to allow a goal this season.)
