Tulsa Falls to Western Michigan, 2-1

The Tulsa women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Western Michigan on Sunday morning at the Notre Dame adidas Invitational at Alumni Stadium in South Bend, Ind. The Golden Hurricane fell to 3-2 on the season while Western Michigan moved to 3-2.
"I was of course disappointed with the outcome, but I was proud of our team for their effort," Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. "We were missing three starters up front and then had to play without one of our top defenders in the final 30 minutes. We started out strong, but gave up two goals late in the first half and then regrouped and got a goal in the second half. We played with a lot of urgency and desire in the second half, we got a few good opportunities and out shot them, 8-6 in the final 45 minutes."
Anina Cicerone scored both of the Broncos goals in the 38th and 40th minutes for her second and third goals of the season.
TU's goal was scored as an own goal as a WMU defender headed in a free kick into their own goal.
Stephanie Aitken led the Tulsa attack with three shots, while Katelynn Duncan, Emily Hahn and Tori Peters each had two attempts. Katie Bykowski logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up four saves.
The Broncos had a 19-12 advantage in shots, while Tulsa had an 8-7 lead in shots on goal, and WMU had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
TU will return to action on Friday, Sept. 9th at Missouri State. Game time is set for 7:00 pm in Springfield, Mo.
