COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Tulsa softball team split its two games on the final day of the Aggie Classic, defeating Texas-San Antonio, 3-2 in eight innings, and falling to No. 15 Texas A&M, 5-1, Sunday afternoon at the Aggie Softball Complex.

The Golden Hurricane (5-2) scored all three runs in the final two innings of the morning game to defeat the Roadrunners (4-5) in the extra frame. In the second contest, TU led 1-0, before the Aggies (7-2) scored two runs in the fourth and three runs in the sixth inning to take the win.

In the first game of the day against UTSA, the Roadrunners opened the scoring with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first by second baseman Ashley Kappler.

TU sophomore Aimee Creger (1-1), who threw a complete game to earn the win, retired the next 12 batters and did not allow a runner beyond first base until the eighth inning.

Tulsa had opportunities to score during the game, including runners in scoring position three times, but did not cross the plate until the top of the seventh inning when senior second baseman Skylar Swanson hit her first home run of the season, a shot to left field that knotted the score at 1-1.

With the international tiebreaker in effect in the extra frame, junior catcher Cassidy Bowen laid down a sacrifice bunt to move sophomore left fielder Shelby Blanton, who began the inning on second, to third base. Sophomore right fielder Cierra Hughes hit an infield single to second base to score Blanton. Junior center fielder Caitlin Everett then singled through the left side, bringing around Hughes, who reached the plate on a throwing error by Kappler.

UTSA, in the bottom half of the eighth, scored its baserunner that started on second - pitcher Halyee Staton with a sacrifice bunt, a pair of walks and an RBI sacrifice fly. Creger, however, stranded the two runners on second and third with a fly out to end the game.
