Tulsa Golfers in 29th Place After NCAA Golf Opening Round

Pacific Palisades, Calif. - Tulsa began the day three-under par following the first hole, but couldn't keep pace on the par-71 Riviera Country Club course in the opening round of the NCAA Men's Golf Championship on Tuesday. Tulsa, the only unranked team in the field, finished first round action in 29th place with a score of 306.
The second-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide leads the field after a first round score of one-over par 285. Florida and Auburn are tied for second place with scores of 288, while UCLA and Oklahoma are tied for fourth place at 289 to round out the top-5 teams.
Tulsa junior Chris Worrell turned in the best round of the day for the Hurricane with a three-over par 74 and sits in 62nd place. Worrell birdied two of his first three holes, the par-5 first and par-4 third holes, but then bogeyed five of his next nine holes. He closed out with a birdie on the par-3 16th hole and bogey on the 18th hole.
Freshman Matt Mabrey turned in a score of 76 for 98th place, while sophomore John Young Kim and junior Mark Mumford are tied for 130th place with 18-hole totals of 78 after the first round. Freshman Colton Staggs shot an opening round of 82 and is in 152nd place for the Hurricane.
Individually, UCLA's Anton Arboleda, the 77th-ranked player in the country, leads the field 156 golfers by one stroke after opening with a four-under par 67. Corey Conners of Kent State and Florida's Tyler McCumber are tied for second place with three-under par scores of 68.
Second round action continues on Wednesday, while after Thursday's 18 holes the top-8 teams will advance to Match Play.
