Cross Country Men Place Fifth at Pre-National Invitational

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Junior Marc Scott placed 11th with an 8K time of 24:24.5 to lead the No. 29 Tulsa men's cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the Pre-National Invitational Saturday at the LaVerne Gibson Cross Country Course.

The Golden Hurricane men's team totaled 272 points, tying No. 22 Colorado State, and was one of only four squads in the 46-team event to place all five of its scoring runners in the top-85 of the 310-runner race. Top-ranked Colorado won the team scoring with 35 points. The Pre-National Invitational is the largest race of the season, and a prelude to the NCAA Championships, which will be held at the same course in Terre Haute on Nov. 22.

The Tulsa women's team placed 15th in the event with 517 points, and was led by sophomore Clara Langley, who finished 53rd. Langley ran the 6K race in 21:37.3. The women's blue race featured 43 teams and 293 runners.

The Tulsa men won the 8K open race, scoring 26 points to top six other teams. Freshman Kirk Smith was the top Hurricane runner in the race, finishing fourth with a time of 25:50.6.

Senior Tim Rackers followed Scott in the men's blue race, placing 34th with a time of 24:51.6. Senior Danny Thater finished 71st in a time of 25:15.8, freshman Ben Preisner ran a 25:18.6 to place 74th, and senior Dennis Hodapp ran an 82nd-place 25:21.4 to round out the TU scorers. Sophomore Adam Palamar ran a 25:48.4 to finish 152nd, and junior Jake McDonnell ran a 25:50.8 to finish 161st.

Langley was followed in the women's 6K blue race by senior Brandi Krieg, who placed 100th with a time of 22:04.9. Freshman Anna Bearss ran the race in 22:07.7 to place 105th, sophomore Olivia Lopez placed 127th with a time of 22:15.4, and freshman Nicole Lee ran a 22:18.4 to finish 132nd and round out the Hurricane scoring. Senior Natasha Cockram ran a 22:30.7 to place 163rd, and sophomore Stacie Taylor ran a 23:09.3 to place 240th.

In the men's open race, all five TU runners finished in the top-36 of the 96-runner event. Freshman Adam Roderique followed Smith with an eighth-place time of 25:57.5. Senior Peter Hodkinson finished 10th with a time of 26:03.8, sophomore Dallas Elmore finished 33rd with a time of 26:44.0, and freshman Elijah Silva ran a 26:49.9 to place 36th.

The Golden Hurricane cross country teams are back in action Friday, Oct. 31, when TU plays host to the American Athletic Conference Championships at Mohawk Park.
